EGG OUTPUT FALLS
POULTRY MASH BLAMED (P.A.) HASTINGS, April 22. Esg production in Hawke’s Bay has declined sharply in recent weeks with the result that supplies are at a premium. Whereas the egg floor in Hastings handles upwards of 20.000 dozen a week in tho flush of the season the present intake is only about 5000 dozen. Problems of distribution are extreme with production at its lowest ebb for several years. Producers say that they have rarely known production to fail so low at this time of the year. Hens are not normally expected to give many eggs at present, as they are moulting, but pullets fill the gap. This season, however, pullets are failing to do their job as they should. Most producers are blaming the poultry mash for the decline. It is considered that the high flour extraction has resulted in a serious reduction in lilt nutrifioral vytue of pollard, which some producers say cannot be told from bran.
