EXCHANGE TEACHER

N.Z.—U.K. LIFE COMPARED ADDRESS TO ROTARY “Similarities and differences in Great Britain and New Zealand" from the point of view of a newly-appointed exchange-teacher were given by Miss Mary Plumb at the Gisborne Rotary Club’s monthly luncheon on Monday. Interesting remarks concerning aspects of New Zealand’s way of life which intrigued and interested her were given, including reference to Rotorua's thermal life, the superb variety of fern and bush, the differences in landscapes and the comparative ease of a New Zealand housewife's lot compared with her English counterpart. Miss Plumb encountered a number of British immigrants on their way out to New Zealand and thought they were a fine stamp of people who would be ready to work hard in their new land. “This is a fine land to work and live in and if I hadn't my roots so deep down in England I would be tempted to stay longer." said Miss Plumb. "In Gisborne, your delightful river scenes and uncommercialised, lovely beaches have won a warm place in my heart and I shall be sorry to leave." Mr. R. G. Clare was chairman for the day, both introducing and thanking the speaker for her address, and suggesting that at the end of her stay in New Zealand she again speak to Rotarians on aspects of New Zealand life.
