MEDICAL STAFF

HOSPITAL DIFFICULTY The difficulty of obtaining recruitments for the medical staff of the Cook Hospital, especially in the grade of house surgeon, was emphasised at yesterday’s meeting of the Cook Hospital Board, when a special committee appointed at the February meeting to discuss this matter submitted its report. The committee indicated that efforts made to secure the services of a house surgeon had been without result, and that Dr. T. C. McNickle, of the Health Department, had suggested that the board advertise for assistant registrars at a salary of £.450- £SOO, according to experience. The committe recommended the adoption of this course, and in addition that Dr. E. M. McLachlan be promoted to the position of assistant registrar at a salary of £550 per annum.

The committee also recommended that the board provide £IOOO in the 1948-49 estimates for anaesthetist services on a part-time basis, and that in the "meantime the medical superintendent. Dr. R. J. B. Hall, be empowered to engage such assistance as may be necessary.
