LOWER PURCHASE TAX
PROPOSAL BY RETAILERS (11 a.m.) LONDON, March 16. The’ British retail distributors have answered, the plea of the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, for reduced prices and profits with an offer to bear the £30,000.000 cost if the Government agreed to cut the purchase taxes by 50 per cent.
