BOYCOTT TO END
DECISION BY BUTCHERS TO BUY AT~ADDINGTON (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, March 16. Limited supplies of fresh meat will be available in Christchurch butchers’ shops on Wednesday and by the end of the week it is hoped that stocks will be near normal. Te deagdlock which arose through the butchers boycotting the Addington market because approved retail, charges were considered to be inadequate to cover the high prices at auction, was broken yesterday afternoon when the Canterbury Master Butchers’ Association met to review the position. The president, Mr. E. R. Blanchard, announced after the meeting that the fat stock would be bought at Addington on Wednesday for the butchers. Committees of three butchers would buy in each of the fat lamb, mutton and fat cattle sections. They would bid up to about schedule rates, and the stock they were able to secure would be distributed to the trade on a pro rata basis. At the same time an endeavour would be made to fill any shortage with fresh lamb and mutton from the freezing works.
