MR. JAMES RANG!, Gisborne, has been authorised to act as a Maori interpreter, first grade, according to a notice in tlie current Gazette.
THE REV. J. KINGSLEY-FAIRBAIRN M.8.E., who is a presbytery member for the Otago centennial synod, left for Dunedin yesterday.
MR. A. A. FRASER, chairman of the Waikohu County Council, presided at the monthly meeting of the council, held i n Te Karaka yesterday. Other councillors present were Messr. H. C. Bovs, A. C. Bellerby, G. S. Bridge, G. Brown, A. F. Fitzgerald, and H. J. F. Tombleson.
MR. C. G. G. HARKER, M.P. for Hawke’s Bav, arrived at Gisborne on Sunday on a visit to the northern portion of his electorate. He spent part of yesterday on a visit to the Kiwi settlement blocks at Hihiroroa and Hiwinui, and met electorate committee delegates last evening in Gisborne. MR, J. LEGGAT, president of the Gisborne Returned Services Association, presided at Saturday's district conference over an attendance comprising Messrs. W. C. Brydon and E. Knox, Tokomaru Bay sub-association, Messrs. R. Dymock and E. Newton, Waikohu sub-association, Messrs. I. 1. Weeks and N. Wilson, lolaga Bay subassociation, Messrs. G- D. Tod and B. D . Jurgens, Nuhaka sf'k-assoemhon, Messrs. M. T. B. Hall, H. M. White, and E. R. Black, members of the K.S.A. land-settlement advisory committee, and Messrs. M. R. Maude,. Gordon Jones, 11. D. Chrisp, I. J. Quigley, A. 11. Berwick, W. Bourke, K B Jones, A. W. Harper, P. Robertson, P. Balfoui and A. H. Miller, of the Gisborne district executive.
