TEACHERS’ BURSARIES
POST-PRIMARY STUDENTS 65 GRANTED THIS YEAR (P.A.) WELLINGTON. March 12. Post-primary teachers’ bursaries, which have been awarded for the first time this year, are of an annual sum of £7O. plus a lodging allowance of £4O for students living away from home for periods of three years, with a possible extension to four.
The bursaries also provide the payment of tuition fees at university classes
These details are contained in postprimary teachers’ bursary regulations which provide that for each bursar a bond must be taken out and an agreement entered into to ensure that the course is completed and that the bursar serves a term of three years as a postprimary teacher.
In some cases the bursars, on obtaining degrees, will be required to undertake a course of training for one year at a teachers' training college. Sixty-five of these bursaries have been awarded in the first year.
