£20,000,000 HELD
MEAT ACCOUNTS BUTCHERS WANT PORTION (P.A.) DUNEDIN, March 11. Funds totalling about £20,000,000 are estimated to be held in the meat pool and meat industry stabilisation accounts for the future benefit -,of the industry and the Master Butchers’ Federation considers that it should be credited with a portion of this amount.
Information about the amount of credits which had accrued . was given to the delegates at the conference of the Master Butchers’ Federation in a report requested by the Wairarapa branch.
The report stated that the council had discussed the question of the distribution of these accounts and the directorate had approached the Minister with a recommendation that a portion of these accounts which accrued from the sale of meat killed for local consumption should be placed to the credit of the retail meat industry. As the regulations governing these accounts stood, the retail industry had no claim to any portion of or benefit from the surpluses in these accounts. The report said the provisional plan, which is under consideration by the consultative committee of three' Government members and three representatives of the federation, asks that a permanent board on (he lines similar to the Meat Producers’ Board be set up to administer the credits on behalf of the retail meat industry.
The federation's report was received and the conference decided that further action on the question of the funds should be left to the council of the federation.
