CITIES EVACUATED
GOVERNMENT TROOPS REVERSES IN MANCHURIA INHABITANTS ALSO LEAVE (10.15 a.m.) NANKING, March 14. Kirin and Siaofengmen were evacuated by Chinese Government troops yesterday, according to a communique issued by the Minister of National Defence. The total population of 100.000 was evacuated with the armed forces. The mass retreat began on March 9 and has been completed successfully. The decision to evacuate was taken by the Government as part of its strategy to strengthen the positions of Changchun and Mukden. Meanwhile, fierce street fighting is reported in the suburbs of -Szezpingk&i with the Government troops hotly contesting every house. Casualties on both sides are said to have been heavy.
