ANNUAL MEETING DEMOCRATIC POLICY APPEAL TO AFFILIATIONS In presenting his annual report to the delegates to the Labour Representation Committee at the annual meeting held last week, the president, Mr. Harnett, stated that the past year had been marked with sadness, as so many stalwarts of the Labour movement, who had fought so hard for better conditions for the people, had passed away. Among these were Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., Mr. J. O’Brien M.P., Mr. P. J. O’Regan M.L.C., Mr. J. A. McCullough M.L.C., Mr. Mark Fagan M.L.C., Mr. A. S. Richards M.P., and Mr T. H. Lowry and Mr C. H. Burnett, past 'Members of Parliament for Otaki and Tauranga respectively. “During the year three Divisional Area Council conferences were held and much good work was done at [them,’’ added the president. “We are proud in that we were able to submit [the names of three members of the (Labour Party to national office for approval on the list as Parliamentary candidates. During the year we congested the municipal elections. [' “We regret very much Mr. D. W. iColeman’s decision not to allow himself I,to be a candidate at the next ParliaImentary elections as during his term [in' office he has worked hard an the interests of his constituents and [also the Labour movement. The jtask confronting the delegates In the [future will be the selecting of a canI didate to replace Mr. Coleman.” i In conclusion, Mr. Harnett appealed [to the affiliations to appoint delegates jto the Labour Representation Commitjtee who were able to attend the meetlings, as the policy of the Government [was democracy, and every section of [the workers had a responsibility in 'formulating it | The report being adopted, the election of officers took place. It resulted as’ follows: —President: Mr W. Harnett; vice-president, Mr. E. R. Hudson; sec-retary-treasurer, Mr. G. D. Muirhead; committee. Messrs. J. H. Hall, J. Mohan, E. C. Richards, J. A. Thomas and V. ,Wise; auditors, Messrs. R. A. Keeling and E. Tucker; press correspondent, Mrs. H. Tucker. At a subsequent meeting a sum of i £lO was received from the local branch [of the Labour Party to be forwarded Ito the Heni Materoa Children’s Home ! Building fund. ; It was decided to leave the matter of ; delegates to the annual conference of ! the Labour Party until next meeting. Several members spoke of the splenic did services rendered to the Labour i movement by the retiring secretary, Mr |E. Tucker, who suitably replied.
