YACHT CAPSIZES

SQUALLY CONDITIONS Squally conditions o_n Saturday afternoon caused, the capsize of one of the three yachts which put out from the boat harbour. Races which were to have been conducted by the Gisborne Yacht Club were cancelled. Although the weather was not satisfactory for racing, three boats put out to take advantage of the light northerly breeze to try experiments with their spinnakers. The boats were .iust leaving the boat harbour when the velocity and the direction of the wind suddenly changed. All had the minimum of crews aboard and the Idle-Along-elass yacht Swift lay well over and nearly capsized. The' 14-footer Dam' Fine managed to get before the wind, but her skipper could not hold her and she swung ofT-course up into the wind. Her ow n momentum heeled her over at an alarming angle and the wind took her the rest of the way over. With the assistance of a dinghy manned by Messrs M. Smith and D. Beatty the capsized boat was quickly righted.
