Danger to Children
The danger of children interfering with electrical power lines was brought under the notice of the Lyttelton Borough Council by the electrical overseer, Mr. A. Large. It was reported that recently a boy had been found on top of the high tension switch house in Simeon quay. Fortunately a member of the electrical staff observed the boy on the building and, after seeing him safely oil the roof, warned him of the great risk he had taken. In another instance a lad had been found striking at a high tension wire with a stick in an endeavour to bring down the wire. The council decided to write to school committees asking them to request the headmasters of the schools to warn the pupils of the danger of interfering with electric wires, or other electrical equipment.
