CITIZEN AIR FORCE
START IN APRIL AUSTRALIAN PLANS FOUR FIGHTER SQUADRONS MELBOURNE, March 12. A citizen air force of fighter squadrons would be formed during April in Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, announced the Minister of Air Mr. A. S. Drakeford. A city of Melbourne squadron will be formed at Laverton, a city of Sydney squadron at Bankstown, a city of Brisbane squadron at Archerfield, and a city of Perth squadron at Pearce. Each squadron will be manned by 40 per cent permanent Air Force personnel and GO per cent part-time citizen air force volunteers, and will be 'equipped initially with Mustangs and later with Australian-made Vickers Vampire jet fighter's.
