NINE INCINERATED
MENTAL HOSPITAL FIRE TRAPPED ON TOP FLOOR NEW YORK, March 11. A fire which broke out about midnight in the kitchen at a mental hospital at Asheville (North Carolina), burned nine women to death. The other 11 women occupants were rescued but many were badly' burned. The flames roared through the building and the walls collapsed as firemen tried to rescue the trapped patients. Seven of the dead were trapped helplessly on the top floor.of the fourstorey building as the flames quickly shot up the elevator shaft to the roof. The other two died when being taken from the building which is a unit of Duke University Hosnital.
