WILL FILE PROTEST
CZECH U.N. DELEGATE SHELVING OF REQUEST NEW YORK. March 11. Dr. Jan Papanek, the Czechoslovak representative at the United Nations, announced today that he will file a formal protest with the United Nations against the shelving of his request for a Security Council investigation of the Communist seizure of his Government. Dr. Papanek said he was also ready to occupy the seat for Czechoslovakia in the Little Assembly, boycotted by the Soviets when the Assembly meets on March 15. if his action will not “embarrass” the United Nations. “I am still the legal representative of the Czechoslovak Republic,” he added. “I am acting on the instructions of M. Masaryk. I don’t see how M. Trygve Lie can regard my demand as a communication of a private person.”
As far as is known here. Dr. Pananek’s credentials have not been withdrawn.
Swiss radio reported that seven Swiss universities have refused an invitation to join the sixth centenary celebrations of the Charles University, Prague, in April. The refusal was “in the light of recent events at the Charles University,” where the rector and some of the staff and students were dismissed in the Communists' purge.
