TOMATO HARVEST
19 TONS TO ACRE WAERENGA-A-HIKA CROP With dwarf tomatoes grown in Gisborne this season for the first time in any quantity some study has been made of yields and it would appear that the heaviest crop has been taken from an area farmed by Mr. ft. Lardelli at Waerenga a-hika. He nicked the equivalent. of 19 tons to the acre. Ten to 12 tons to the acre is considered a good average return. Mr. Lardelli planted out 2500 plants at the rate of about 3500 or 4000 per acre. The area was about fiveeighths of an acre. The variety was Tarturn and he says he has marketed a good 12 tons from that block.
Other crops in the district have produced wcil. but it is tmlikelv that the returns have been on the scale of the Wacrenga-a hika area.
