VALUES HOLDING

MATAWHERO RATES MEDIUM LAMBS EASE CONFIDENCE APPARENT Apart from a probable slight easing in the rates for the r-srdium-qi'-.’ity store lambs, there was little change in quotations at the weekly Matawhero stock sale yesterday. Top lines cortinued to exceed the 20s level and culls were still making good money. The entry was not a large one and there was a relatively small attendance of buyers, but those bidding seemed to have confidence. The store ••lamb entry was a mixed one with some fairly good top lines the best being 159 wethers heading the sale and being offered on account of Mr. Ben Shanks, Waingake. They sold at 20s 9d. There was a bigger proportion of woolly 'Down-cross lambs than usual, but they were not keenly sought, rates going up to 18s 4d.

The first ewes of the season to be offered, r.w.r., did not attract a great deal of attention and finally they were knocked down at 16s.

Some of the store prices were:—

In the small entry of fat sheep there were some big-boned wethers in good' condition. A line of 26 4-ths offered on account of Mr. J. W. Barns-GrahamV Hangaroa, made 38s, a small number of 2-th wethers, five days off the road, realised 33s 9d, and 10 ’Down-cross wethers sold at 32s 6d. Ewes made to 29s and ewe lambs in the wool, for the single pen offered, went at 20s. Two Jersey cows comprised the fat cattle entry and they were passed in at the opening bid of £3. Weaners predominated in the pig section and they made from 16s to 20s, small slips to 21s and one store £2 ss. During the luncheon adjournment several pens of purebred ’Down ewes were offered, five on account of the East Coast Commission making 33s and others ranging from 31s to 375.
