“STATEMENTS DIFFER”
BRITAIN & NEW ZEALAND FULL RECIPROCAL TRADE (P.A.) WELLINGTON .March 12. “It does not seem logical that the United Kingdom Government would request the New Zealand Government to slash our imports to such an extent that it would act detrimentally to United Kingdom export trade. How can the United Kingdom pay for her foodstuffs unless reciprocal trade is equalled and how does this tie up with a statement of the President of the Board of Trade that exports to the Dominions are a dire necessity?” This question is asked in a statement issued by the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association in a comment on the recent statement by the acting Minister of Customs, Mr. A. H. Nordmeyer.' The statement says it is anticipated' that before six months have passed there will be a famine in many cpnsiuner lines, and adds that information received from reliable sources in England does not dovetail with that published here. ___
