CHAIR VACATED
AID-BRITAIN COUNCIL DR. SINGER’S DECISION Members of the Gisborne district council of the aid-to-Britain movement, at a meeting held on Wednesday evening, heard from the Mayor that the chairman of the council, Dr. A. L. Singer, had advised his intention to retire. Pressure of professional duties and of private business was stated to be the reason for Dr. Singer’s decision to lay down an office which he had held for the past three months. Keen appreciation of the part he had played in the organisation of aid-for-Britain was expressed by Mr. N. H. Bull and by other speakers. It was recognised that the chairman’s task required a good deal of time, and that Dr. Singer had already made substantial sacrifices of time and effort on behalf of the council. Discussion hinged for a time upon the question of his successor in the chairmanship, and certain suggestions were offered which the executive will consider prior to the next meeting.
Reports upon various activities sponsored by the council were discussed, and the secretary, Mr. T. Martin, outlined results of the collections of fat and other efforts to which attention had oeen direced during the past month.
