ROBBERY FOILED
THIEF MAKES OFF £SO IN BAG LEFT BEHIND (P.A.) WANGANUI, March 11. A simple yet daring attempt at robbery was foiled in Marten early yesterday afternoon by the town clerk, Mr. C. C. McDonald. The staff had gone to lunch and Mr. McDonald, who had been temporarily engaged in the council room, moved into the adjoining public office where he saw a man about to leave carrying a money bag.
Mr. McDonald closed the door, locked it and went to summon the police. While he was away the intruder, who was a stranger to the town clerk,, managed to escape. The bag, which was reported to contain about £SO was left behind.
The police so far have not found him
