OTAGO’S STOUTS RECORD
Sir, —It is fitting that we Otagoites living in and around Gisborne should pay tribute to the amazing feats of the yoitnger generation of Otago people. The number of shields and trophies won by Otago during this Centennial year must be a record, and one which will be hard to beat in the years to come by any other province. Otago this year holds the Plunket Shield for cricket, the Ranfurly Shield for Rugby football, the Yaldhurst Shield for swimming and water polo, the shield for amateur athletics, which has just been decided, while the St. Hilda Municipal Band holds the shield for the highest number of points gained in the test selections and the quick-step in the recent band contest. Truly this is a wonderful record and something of which we of the older generation of Otago should be proud. DUNEDINITE.
