DEATH IN AIRCRAFT

ELDERLY PASSENGER EMERGENCY LANDING (P.A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, March 10. After making an emergency landing at Awakino yesterday afternoon a Tauranga pilot stepped out of his Tiger Moth plane to discover that his passenger was dead. The passenger was Mr. W. Dempster, Opotiki, aged 74 The plane was flown by Mr. E. C. Roberts, a member of .the Tauranga Aero Club. The plane left Opotiki for New Plymouth yesterday morning. Flying conditions were not the best and when nearing Awakino the pilot noticed that his passenger was unconscious. He decided to make a forced landing and touched down on a property about three miles north of Awakino, causing slight damage to the plane’s undercarriage.

The plane' remained at Awakino overnight.
