S. KOREA ELECTIONS
OFFICIALS AT VARIANCE SEOUL, March 8. The recommendation of the United Nations’ Little Assembly that elections be held in South Korea was “contrary to the almost unanimous views of members of the temporary commission on Korea,” Mr. G. Patterson (Canada) declared today at the first meeting of the commission since the Little Assembly communicated its resolution. The commission today took no action on the question. Lieutenant-General J. Hodge, American commander in South Korea, has announced that elections would be held on May 9. , Mr. Patterson declared that the United States Military Government could hold elections whenever it pleased, but they would not be binding on the commission.
