RUSSIA’S PRODUCTION INDUSTRIAL GROWTH (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, March 9. The Soviet submitted statistics to the United Nations showing that her industrial production in 1947 was 22 per cent higher than in 1946 and exceeded the goal by 3i per cent. The Soviet report said that of the Ministries responsible for various economic activities, 24 equalled or exceeded their targets for 1947, while six fell only slightly short of their objectives. The manufacture of metals and metal products in 1947 was substantially ahead of 1946, with pigiron and steel registering 14 per cent and 9 per cent gains respectively. Increases ranging from 12 to 22 per cent were achieved in the production of coal, natural gas and electric power, Farm machinery production was more than doubled and the output of fertilisers was 35 per cent greater. Agriculture production increased by 32 per cent. _______________
