R.A.F. RUGBY UNION
G. R. BEAMISH CHAIRMAN The captain of the British Rugby team which came to New Zealand in 1930. Air Commodore G. R. Beamish, C. C.8.E., has succeeded Group Captain G. A. Walker, C.8.E., D. 5.0., D. as chairman of the RA.F. Rugby Union. Air Commodore Beamish, who is Director of Weapons at the British Air Ministry, is a former R.A.F. Rugby captain and Irish International. The holder of 25 international caps, Air Commodore Beamish has two brothers in the service, and his elder brother, Group Captain F. V. Beamish, D.S.O. and Bar, D.F.C., A.F.C., was killed during the war. All four brothers have represented the R.A.F. at Rugby, and one of them has played 12 times for Ireland. During the war the family held a unique record with four brothers and two sisters in the R.A.F., the sisters being dental officers. Air Commodore Beamish is an allround sportsman. In 1925 he was R.A.F. officers’ golf champion, and in 1929 R.A.F. heavyweight boxing champion.
