SUICIDE ATTEMPT

“A DRAMATIC ACT?” COUNSEL’S ALLEGATION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, Feb. 27. Was the apparent attempted suicide of Pansy Louise Frances Haskell a cunning idea of staging a dramatic act as a pretence of innocence, asked the Crown prosecutor, Mr. V. R. Meredith, when the retrial of Haskell, charged with murdering Mrs. Gladys Ruth Rusden, was continued in the Supreme CAurt. The jury visited Mrs. Rusdcn's home in Horotutu road. One Tree Hill. Mr. Meredith, continuing his outline of the Crown’ case, said that when the accused was found in the washhouse at her home with razor cuts "after this apparent attempt at suicide” she said to the police: “Let me die.” “Well, she- was never in any danger of dying, according to the medical evidence.” Mr. Meredith added. The case is proceeding.
