LONDON. Feb. 24. Britain had agreed to pay Argentina £140,000.000 in advance for food and feeding stuffs under the Anglo-Argen-tine trade agreement. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir Stafford Cripps, told the House of Commons that the advance payment was necessary because Argentina had not sufficient, sterling to nay £150.000,000 for the British-owned railways and also support its banking operations. Sir Stafford Cripps said that the prices Britain was paying for goods was rather higher than under the previous agreement owing to the sharply rising market.
