RAIN IN PATCHES

EVENING SHOWERS HOPES NOT REALISED WAINGAKE PASSED BY Threatening rain clouds yesterday afternoon raised the hopes of gardeners and farmers throughout the district and some were more fortunate than others. The rainfall throughout the Gisborne flats was patchy, for some areas received little or no benefit. So far as the town area was concerned, supplies of tank water were replenished. At Darton Field there was a recording of 0.09 in. and at the Gisborne Harbour Board’s signal station, Kaiti Beach, the reading for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today was O.llin. The rainfall at the borough water works, at Waingake , for the same period was O-Olin. but .the recording there for the 48 hours ended at 9 a.m. today was O.lOin. The research station at Manutuke recorded 0.15 in. for the 24 hours. There was no rain of any consenuence at Ormond. To give a clear indication of the patchy nature of the recent showers, the recordings for the 24 hours ended at 9 a.m. yesterday are interesting: Signal station. 0.01 in.; Darton Field, 0.03 in.; Waingake water works, 0.09 in. There was little ra : n last night in the Tolaga Bay township and most tank enrinlies remained at a low level. Water is being sold by the tank full and is being drawn from a reservoii near the wharf.
