STILL NO TRANSIT HUTS

A REQUEST from the Transit Camp Tenants’ Committee requesting the Gisborne Borough Council to provide additional accommodation for tenants with families of three children was received at last night’s meeting of the council. It was pointed out by Mr. I. J. Quigley that although three children had to sleep in the one small room, the council at present could do nothing. It was attempting to obtain more huts, but these seemed practically impossible to obtain. A letter was received from the Parliamentary Under - Secretary, Prime Minister’s office, advising that the council’s request for a further supply of ex-army or air force huts for mobile transit housing purposes was being investigated.
