GEN. HIGGINS DEAD
SALVATIONIST CHIEF
65 YEARS’ SERVICE NEW YORK, Dec. 14. The death is announced of General Edward Higgins, of the Salvation Army, who retired in 1934 after five years as chief executive officer.
General Higgins, who was 83, entered the Salvation Army in 1882 and held various positions in evangelical and staff work in Britain and on the staff of the international training college. He was Chief Secretary of the United States from 1896 to 1905, commissioner for field work in Britain and Ireland from 1911 to 1919, when he became Chief of Staff until 1929, and then general of the Salvation Army.
