COUNTY WORKS
TRANSFER OF GRANTS The difficulty of obtaining materials for various works in the county for which the expenditure had been authorised for the current financial year was mentioned at yesterday’s meeting of the Waikohu County Council. The engineer, Mr: S. R. Currie, was authorised to apply for the transfer of treasury grants to work which could 1 be completed during the financial year. It was explained that materials were unavailable for several jobs for which grants were originally made. At the request of Mr. H. C. Boyes, the engineer was also instructed to, prepay a turning place and parking space for cars near the Motu store. * Following the receipt of a letter from the Commissioner of Transport it was agreed by the council that-the OpotikiMatawai via Motu highway should be ‘ classified as class three and county ‘ roads in classes four and five. The Commissioner’s offer to make an assessment of the contribution to be made by timber carters carrying loads in excess of class four was also accepted. However, it is to be pointed out that on some roads the load limit is controlled by the condition of some of the old bridges.
