OCTOBER SHIPMENT SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS While members of the Aid-for-Britain National Council are feeling some concern lest the volume of voluntary aid for Britain should swamp the resources for shipping and distribution, the general public in this and other districts are continuing to give full expression to their goodwill for the people in Britain whose ration scale is appallingly low compared with that obtaining in this Dominion. Residents of the Bast Coast are supporting with generosity the scheme promoted by the Rev. W. Bird, vicar of Waipiro Bay, under which bulk shipments of food are sent each month to the Food Ministry for distribution in districts chosen, for special treatment. The equivalent of 1350 parcels at 10s each was contributed during October, and arrangements for dispatch have been made by Mr. Bird through the good offices of Mr. I. J. Quigley. Fine Help From Tokomaru Bay Tokomaru Bay residents were especially generous in their contributions, which represented 905 parcels. Ruatoria contributed the equivalent of 160. Tikitiki 149, and Tolaga Bay 60. Not included in the Tokomaru Bay general donations was £23 provided by children of the Tokomaru Bay Native School who launched a series of efforts including bottle collections with satisfying success The Wai-o-Matatini School pupils also played their part with a contribution of £lO. Tuhua School donated the equivalent of five parcels, and Waipiro Bay and Te Araroa pupils sacrificed their small allowancves to contribute two parcels from each school for the month. , Rangitukia people gave of stock in response to a drive organised by Mr V G H. Rickard, the sale yielding £62 18s a picture entertainment sponsored by Mr J L. Coates provided another £lO3 6d, and donations from the Poroporo Valley settlers accounted for a further £1 10s.
