ZERO HOUR NEAR
SHIPPING TIE-UP ENGINEERS' DISPUTE 120 VESSELS AFFECTED SYDNEY, Sept. 29. Midnight tomorrow has been fixed as the zero hour for marine engineers to carry out theiri threat to walk off interstate" vessels. More than 120 vessels, which normally carry 750,000 tons of cargo every month, are affected. There is no sign of a settlement of the dispute which will paralyse almost completely Australia’s coastal trade unless an agreement is reached before tomorrow.
The Ministry of Supply and Shipping, Seator W. P. Ashley, says he has no plan for intervention in the dispute at present, but will examine the position today. Many ships have already been tied up and others are being recalled to their home ports.
