DRIVER THROWN 25YDS.
TRUCK STRUCK BY EXPRESS (P-A.) LEVIN, Sept. 20. When a heavy truck driven by a Chinese came into collision with the north-bound Wellington-Auekland express at a -level crossing a quarter of a mile south of Levin station at 4.49 p.myesterday, its driver received severe head injuries and was taken to Palmerston North by the express for admission to hospital. The driver could not be identified at the time of the accident, but is believed to be:
Yip Sam, aged about 35, a marketgardener.
The truck was wrecked, parts being strewn along the line for a distance of 20yds. The driver was thrown from the vehicle to a point 25yds. beyond the place of impact with the train. The engine was slightly damaged and was replaced on arrival at Palmerston North.
