A 48-year-old Canadian, Mr. Andrew K. Cairns, has been appointed director of the International Federation of Agricultural Producers. He was previously secretary of the International Wheat Council Mr Robert Harper, who came from Australia to be the first editor of the Labour newspaper, the Southern Cross, has resigned and vacated the editorial chair as from Friday last. With a few months of his contract still to run he intends to take a holiday in New Zealand. Coming here under the Salvation Army’s scheme for creating a better understanding between nations. Colonel George H. Marshall, who will be the chief secretary to the Salvation Army in New Zealand, arrived at Auckland by the vessel Marine Phoenix yesterday. He was accompanied bv Mrs. Marshall. They came from Atlanta. United States.
