PRISONER ESCAPEE

WEDDING POSTPONED (!) a.m.) MELBOURNE, Sept. 19. An Italian prisoner of war was granted three days’ leave of absence this week to marry the daughter of a Melbourne tradesman. The girl’s father says, however, that because of the publicity the wedding has been postponed. The Italian, who is a painter and decorator by trade, escaped from detention last year and obtained employment with the father of the girl he plans to marry. While celebrating the first anniversary of his escape some months ago he was recognised by a former Army guard and handed over to the authorities. Ten days later lie escaped again, but was recaptured on his way to give himself up.
