CALEDONIA A WIN DEFEAT OF H. 5.0.8. (WHITE) AGAIN RUNNERS-UP In the best game of the season of the I’.B. Hockey Association’s competitions Caledonia (A) achieved a last-minute victory on the Gisborne ground on Saturday over H. 5.0.8. (White) and won the A grade championship by a single point. For the second successive season H. 5.0.8. (White) took the runnerup position Excellent stick-work giving control in passing movements was a feature of Saturday's game, won 4-3 by Caledonia (A). The pace throughout was very fast with the winners showing up in persistent assaults during the concluding stages. Playing a very strong defensive game, M. Lynskey saved H. 5.0.8. many times. L. Roderick also played well. G. Cassin for Caledonia played a good allround game attacking and defending well, while A. Taylor and C. Parry kept the attack going Caledonia opened the score within 15 minutes when C. Parry netted a rebound from the goalie. Play was dominated by forward rushes up and down the field until L. Roderick won an H. 5.0.8. third attempt at a penalty bully leaving the half-time score one-all. Directly after the interval D Hickman found the net to put H. 5.0.8. one goal ahead. Fast hard and spectacular action varied the play G. Cassin netted a nenalty corner for Caledonia and the side went ahead when C. Parry headed a fast forward movement from which he passed to A. Taylor who scored a fine goal. H. 5.0.8. evened the score again when L. Roderick won a bully at halfway and took the ball into the circle to outplnv the goalie and scored. The tally was then three-all and in the extra time allowed for an injury a penalty corner led to ihe winning goal for Caledonia. Town v. Country Game The women's Town v. Junior Boys Although beaten decisively in their initial encounters with Gisborne teams from the Intermediate and High School, the two Wellington teams, Petone A and Petone B. leaders in the seventh grade of the Wellington Hockev Association's club competitions, displayed a sound knowledge of, the game and" were a credit to their coaches Mr. A. For Petone, the most prominent players on the day were McKnight, Adds, Crawford. Lincoln 'and Craig. Scores were registered for Intermediate by Harris (4), Chambers and Wilson.
