RAFT STRIKES REEF
NORWEGIAN SCIENTISTS (N.Z.P.A. —Reuter —Copyright.) (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Aug. 11. The Kontiki raft expedition has ended its journey on Raroia Reef, in the Tuamotu Islands. After three days trying to get around the reef they finally drifted on to it and grounded. All members of the expedition made their way safely ashore on an uninhabited island and managed to salvage most of their equipment, food and water supplies. They hope to find natives who will assist them to get the remaining legs of the raft into the lagoon for reassembly.
