A letter from the Napier club set out Its proposals for conducting the open regatta, these being subject to contributions of £3O each from the four district clubs to provide prize-money for a full programme of racing. This matter of finance had been held over from a previous meeting of the executive, when delegates were asked to ascertain how the proposal could be dealt with by their respective clubs. At Sunday’s meeting the Gisborne and Wairoa clubs advised that owing to commitments in respect of replacement of boats and oars they were not in a position to contribute to the prizemoney for the open regatta this season. The Poverty Bay club was prepared, its delegates stated, to find £3O for this purpose providing all proceeds of the regatta fixture were to become the property of the association. This provision was not in accordance with the plans advanced by the Napier chib, however, and it was agreed that nn'ess the proposals were changed the contribution of Poverty Bay club would not be forthcoming.

It was pointed out that in an earlier letter the Napier club had offered, for the 1947-48 season, to conduct the open regatta out of its own resources, and that the executive of the association had approved of this Being done if the other clubs were not able to assist financially.

The executive finally decided to invite the southern club to submit new proposals in the light of the northern clubs’ inability to provide finance for an open regatta this season, and also taking into account the original offer received from the Napier club.
