HARBOUR BOARDS
WATERSIDERS' OPINION (P.A.) DUNEDIN. June 13. “Whatever may be the claims of our harbour board in particular and harbour boards in general to be democratically elected public bodies and whatever justification there may be for the appointment of harbour boards to administer our harbour facilities in the early history of the Dominion we have come to the conclusion that these institutions have outlived their usefulness.” This statement was the opinion of Port Chalmers waterside workers, who have requested the Prime Minister. Mr. P. Fraser, to consider the advisability of conducting a comprehensive investigation into “the competence of the present authorities to have continuation of the control of the country's harbours.”
