DEATH OF CANDIDATE UNUSUAL SITUATION (P.A.) . AUCKLAND, June 14. Through the death of one of the candidates, Dr. A. H. Hirst-Good, Te papapa, an unusual situation has arisen over yesterday's election of one member of the Auckland University College Council by members of the General Assembly resident in the Auckland Province. Nominations closed at noon oil May 15, when the papers of the two candidates the sitting member of the council, Mr. C. R. Ford, and Dr. HirstGood, formerly of Gisborne, were received. Dr. ’ Hirst-Good, however, died in the Green Lane Hospital on Juno 4. The election at the college office at nocn yesterday resulted in the return of Dr. Hirst-Good. The Registrar, Mr. L. O. Desborough, said the position would be put before the council at its meeting on Monday, when a decision would be made on the course, of action. Tlie situation is slated to be without precedent in the history of the college. It is probable that the council will request the registrar to call for fresh nominations and conduct a by-election.
