ONE-DAY STRIKE

AUCKLAND SUGGESTION (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 2. Reports that the Auckland Trades Council has suggested to the national council of the Federation of Labour that a one-day general strike be held throughout New Zealand, with demonstrations in the principal cities, would be neither confirmed nor denied by a prominent member of the Trades Council today. “I have no comment,” lie said. It had been stated in certain quarters that the one-day strike suggestion was contained in a recommendation to the national council to organise trade union action throughout the country (o force support for the proposed wages application to the Arbitration Court claiming a general increase of £1 a week.
