AUSTRALIAN SHIP REPAIRS CANBERRA, March 21. Under a heading "exceptional expenditure," the Commonwealth Auditor General, Mr. A C. Joyce, in his annual report, says the total cost to the Commonwealth to September 30 last year of S.S. Malaita, which was requisitioned by the Commonwealth during the war ’from Burns Philp and Company, Limited was £296,848. The basic value of the vessel, Mr. Joyce said, was £172.000. It was damaged by enemy action during 1942. While repairs were in progress the company accepted an offer of £125,000 in full settlement of the Commonwealth's liability for repairs. To June 30 last year, £OO,OOO had been spent by ihe Commonwealth on repairs, and the balance of £05,000 was paid by the company in July, last year.
