RESIDENT FAREWELLED (Herald Correspondent.) Mr Jim Armitt, an old and much respected resident of the Coast, who is retiring at the end of the month, was fnrewelled at the week-end by a number of his friends at the Waiapu Hotel. Tikitiki. Mr Armitt. who has resided at the top of Gudgeon’s Hill for 37 years, has been employed by the Waiapu County Council as roadman and later by the Main Highway Board. During his years on the Coast he lias made many friends and especially before the advent of metalled roads and bridges when lie will be remembered by the travelling public for his willing assistance to many of them in their time of need. Apologies for their absence were received from Messrs G. McKcddic and L. Bailey. Gisborne. Tile speakers were Messrs. M. Gudgeon and M. Hyland on behalf of the Europeans and Mr Pat Ngata. on behalf of the Maoris, who wished Mr Armitt the best of health, wealth and hanpiness in the future. On behalf of tHe gathering Mr Hyland presented the guest of honour with a cheque. After entertain’ng the gathering with some of his early experiences on the Coast. Mr Armitt thanked his -friends for their much appreciated gift and good wishes.
