EARLIER ARRIVAL
VIKING AIRCRAFT LATE CHANGE OF PLANS Many Gisborne people were disappointed yesterday morning at the cariy and hitherto unscheduled appearance of the Vickers Viking aircraft over tiie town and at Barton field. It was not until a late hour on Wednesday night that new arrangements for the visit of the aircraft to Gisborne were learned of by the Mayor; Mr N. H. Bub. and little could be done to warn residents of the new timetable. Mr. Bull slated yesterday that he and the town clerk. Mr W. M. Jenkins, received a telephone call from the aircraft's representatives at Ohakca that the original schedule for the visit could i j\y not be adhered to. The machine had been offered to the Prime Minister, Mr P. Fraser, to trails port him to Auckland yesterday, and originally he had indicated that he wished to leave Ohakca about 3 o’clock yesterday aftc. noon. Late on Wednesday afternoon information was received by the aircraft's representatives that Mr. Fraser desired to leave from Paraparaumu about 1.30 p.m. yesterday. Owing to this, the proposed visits to Napier and Gisborne yesterday had to be rearranged. The aircraft did not call at Nanier yesterday morning, but will visit there today. The Prime Minister will be taken to Auckland this afternoon and the machine will then return to Para paraumu The Mayor expressed his regret yesterday Ihat more .warning could not hive been given regarding the rearranged schedule. He and the town clerk spent a good deal of time up to a late hour on Wednesday night, advising as many peonle as possible of the new schedule, while an announcement was also broadcast’from station 2YH.
