Mr. L. J. Dumbleton, chief entomologist to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, arrived at Gisborne on Wednesday and departed at midday yesterday for Auckland, via Opotiki. Mr. Richard Martin, genera] manager of the Vacuum Oil Company Pty., Limited, accompanied by Mrs. Martin, left Auckland by Pan-American Airways on April 29 on a business trip to U.S.A. Mr.* W. S. McLean will be acting general manager during Mr. Martin's absence. Mr. W. T. Ikin, of Wellington, retired from the position of New Zealand manager of the Australian Provident Society yesterday. Mr .Ikin, who came to New Zealand from Australia as Dominion manager of the company in 1934. was for some years chairman of the Life Offices Association of New Zealand. and from 1933 to 1943 was vicepresident of the New Zealand Insurance Institute. Dr. Oswald Chattle Mazengarb. Doctor of Laws, was admitted to the Inner Bar of the Supreme Court in Wellington yesterday by Mr. Justice Cornish in the presence of three other King's Counsel, the Solicitor-General. Mr Evans Mr P. B. Cooke, and Mr. J. O'Shea, and a large gathering of the legal profession Alter Dr. Mazengarb had made the customary declaration subsequent to the reading of his patent. His Honour said Mie new K.C'.'s long association with the profession and tile esteemed place he held as a barrister adequately . qualified. ’ him tor a scat at the Innei Bar—P.A.
