“BOOKIES” OPPOSED
NO LICENSES TROTTING CONFERENCE USE OF TOTALISATOR (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 1. The Gaming Commission opened its sitting at Christchurch this morning. The Trotting Association's submissions. submitted by Mr C. S. Thomas. were as follows: (1) That the present control and administration of the sport of trotting in New Zealand is efficient and calls for no alteration. (2) That there should be an increase in the number of totalisator permits available to trotting clubs. (3) That the Gaming Act, 1908, and its amendments are satisfactory subject to the amendments referred to above. (4) That bookmakers should not be licensed to operate either on or on the course. (5) That if the commission comes to the,conclusion that it is desirable or necessary to establish facilities for legal off-course betting, such facilities should*be under the control of the trotting and racing authorities and should be associ ated with the totalisator. (6) That relief should be granted to trotting clubs in respect of the present taxation.
