S. AFRICA TO INDIA “RANCID BUTTER” TRICK (11 a.m.) LONDON. Ma v 1. Smugglers over a period of six months hav<3 transferred £IOO,OOO worth of stolen gold from the Rand to India by a “rancid butter” trick, says the Daily Express correspondent in Johannesburg. Smugglers opened tins of butter imported from India, impregnated the butter with gold dust, rescaled the tins and sent them back to Bombay 1-belled: “Unfit for Human Consumption.”
