DOMINIONS’ FEARS DIVERSION OF EXPORTS TEXTILES FROM BRITAIN (11 a.m.) LONDON, May 1. The executive committee of the Dominions’ section of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce held a special meeting to consider Dominion reports that exports of textiles from the United Kingdom would be mainly to hard currency countries at the erryense of the Dominions. The committee stated that these fears were unjustified. It pointed out that the Board of Trade had stated early in February that a new system of allocation would give greater freedom for trade within the Empire. The exporters in the past had been unable to accept orders because of the absence of facilities to acquire supplies. Until open export facilities were announced, the position would remain difficult. Production had been continuous apart from the fuel crisis stoppages and future delivery dates were likely to be shortened. Reasonable continuing supplies were assured.
