REVOLT SUPPRESSED
BATTLE IN ASUNCION HUNDREDS KILLED BUENOS AIRES, May 30. The Paraguayan Embassy announced that Government forces had suppressed the revolt in the capital city of Asuncion after three days’ fighting between the President’s cavalry plus the security police forces and the rebel naval contingents, backed by the Communist Febrerista and Liberal groups. It is reported that hundreds were killed or wounded in the fighting which began on Sunday when the rebels seized the main power plant, leaving Asuncion in darkness. The announcement said that absolute tranquility now prevails. Earlier, it was reported that an Argentine Deputy had told the Chamber of Deputies that the President, Dr. Higinio Morinigo, had taken refuge in the Spanish Embassy in Asuncion. The Paraguayan civil war has now lasted 50 days. The revolutionaries still control the northern half of Paraguay with their headquarters at Concepcion.
